First Look: Alchemy Arktos Mountain Bike
The maker of hand-built carbon road bikes goes all in with its first full-suspension mountain bike
By Gloria Liu Alchemy Bicycle Co. is probably best known—and was featured in Bicycling’s 2014 “Dream Bikes” issue—for its handmade, custom, carbon road frames. But the reason this Denver-based boutique bike maker is making a big splash at this year’s Interbike trade show is its new carbon trail bike, the Arktos.

Time Trial and Triathlon Bike Preview
Kestrel’s Talon Tri might be the best deal we’ve seen in a genuine multisport bike. Its carbon-fiber frame and fork were designed at North Carolina’s A2 wind tunnel, and includes a versatile geometry that features three degrees of adjustment on the seat tube angle with the EMS Pro seatpost. As a sub-brand of Advanced Sports, Kestrel benefits from house brands, with Oval Concepts providing brake levers, wheels, and the full aero cockpit. With Shimano 105 derailleurs, the price, $1,450, seems like a misprint, but it’s not—that’s $700 less than last year’s nearly identical model.
